Muchelney Abbey, Somerset
Present remains date largely from 12th century. Abbot’’s Lodging is best preserved. Linen fauld benching, stuart tapestry, huge fireplace, lime washed wall, stained glass window. Stone staircase very worn. Somerset. Muchelney Abbey was one of the earliest in Somerset. What remains magnificently visible are the monks’’ kitchen and latrine, part of the fan-vaulted cloister, and the superb great chamber of the abbot’’s lodging, all rebuilt in the early 16th century.
