Austere fort built by Henry the Eighth, once carried 119 guns, designed to resemble a Tudor Rose, built to counter the threat of invasion in mid 16th century, coastal, defensive fortress, probably completed by 1540, Tudor, Jacobean, Gate House, ground floor of keep, first floor rooms part 16th century part 18th century, basement Tudor, Kent. Deal Castle is one of the finest Tudor artillery works in England. It is among the earliest and most elaborate of a chain of coastal forts. Built between 1539 and 1540 by order of King Henry VIII who feared an invasion by the Catholic powers of Europe. English Heritage\'s Walmer Castle is nearby.
