Location 12338
Magnificent Georgian Bath stone mansion which dates back to 1789. Built by Thomas Jolliffe to whom the present Lord Hylton is related, the house was designed by James Wyatt. In the early 1970’s, Lord Hylton and some friends formulated the concept of an adult education centre. The stable block was contemporary with the house and now forms the main building of the Centre. The Dovecote is one of the oldest parts of the building. Peace Cottage was once the apple store. From the Centre you will notice the column on the hill. Set at 600 feet above sea level, it is nearly 150 feet in height and once possessed a glass dome viewing platform upon its summit; sadly this was a casualty of the 1987 storms. 6 reception rooms (4 very large), 15 bedrooms, glorious staircase, nationally regarded gardens, parkland setting in approx 550 acres. Somerset BA3.
