Elizabethan mansion built in Weldon stone. Built from 1570 on. Richly carved exterior decoration. State rooms now empty. Some parts, like long gallery and lodging ranges, now roofless, but accessible. Great Gardens, partly restored, contain \'cutwork\' parterres with curved boards, gravel, grass and trees in tubs. Kirby Hall is one of the great Elizabethan houses. The exceptional, richly carved decoration heralds the arrival in England of new ideas about architecutre and design. Although the house is partly ruined, the Great Hall and state roms remain ntact, and ave been refitted and redecorated to authentic 17th and 18th century designs.
